Site Navigation
The site navigation elements on the Commission Website are:
- Left Navigation Bar, where you will see the main menu which allows you to access the different areas and sections of the website containing information.
- Top Navigation Bar (beneath the logo): this bar contains shortcuts to some of the website's general sections (home page, links to other sites, etc.).
- Site Map: this is a directory of all the website's pages displayed in two versions, the graphic version (which looks like a file browser tree) or the text version.
Search
Use the search function at the top right of the screen to find pages containing a particular search text. How to use the search function:
- On a simple search, the search engine will find all pages that contain any of the terms entered in the search text.
- Results are displayed in order of the number of times that the search terms are mentioned on the page.
- We recommend that you use singular terms rather than plural. E.g. 'directive' instead of 'directives'.
- If your search returns no search results, we recommend choosing a different search term or using the site map to locate pages that may contain the information you require.
Downloading Documents
The documents that can be downloaded or printed from this website come in several different formats. These formats are listed below together with the graphic symbols which help users to identify the document format used:
- HTML Documents: these documents can be displayed directly in your web browser, so there is no need to use another programme to display or print them.
- PDF Documents: PDF (Portable Document Format) is a format created by Adobe which requires the user to have a PDF reader programme installed on their computer in order to display or print the document. If you are having problems viewing these documents, you probably don't have a PDF reader installed on your computer. You can download Adobe Acrobat Reader free of charge here.
- .DOC Documents: These documents require users to have Microsoft Word, the free Microsoft Word viewer or another viewing programme (Open Office and similar) installed on their computer in order to display the documents. See the Links section if you need to download any of these programmes.
